Quite excited but completely overwhelmed. I have the chance to go to Switzerland for 5 days …later this week! Arriving in Zurich, planning on heading to Luzern. I’d like to chill out , walk and stay there, Mt. Pilatus. Should I get a train pass?
Splurge and get a Swiss Travel Pass 4 day.

You have to read everything it covers and ask questions what you don't understand.
Mt . Rigi outside of Lucerne is completely covered by the Swiss Travel Pass- the boat ride and the cogwheel train to the summit. Enjoy this beautiful country. Safe travels!
If you plan to stay in Luzern, look into the Tell Pass. It will get you to all the sites in that area. The train/ tourism office staff will assist you in the best choice for your interests.
A Swiss Train pass covering four days is going to cost at least $200. Trains from Zurich’s Airport or downtown to Luzern only cost $20 to $30 so it will be less expensive for you to simply buy point -to-point tickets for the 50-minute train ride between Zurich and Lucerne when you get there and buy your Mt Pilatus ticket for $60 separately.
You can check train schedules and fares at www.TheTrainline.com
For Swiss public transport schedules better use www.sbb.ch. That site has all the trains, busses, cable cars, boats, trams, mountain railways and whatever other conveyances exist. Trainline covers maybe 10% of that.
Get a ticket from the airport. get the Tell pass, and then just get as much value out of it as you can, just going wherever your fancy (and the weather) pulls you.
You can buy both the ticket and the pass at the airport when you arrive.
