4 day - 3 night | Hut-to-hut hike | Western Switzerland

Hi Rick,

I will be in Lyon, France in June, and am planning a week in Switzerland as well. Have read and seen a lot about the amazing alpine huts, and would like some help planning a route.

Since we will be traveling from France, I assume something on the west side of the Switzerland would be most convenient. Looking for some guidance on a 4 day, 3 night route and associated huts. Am pretty fit, so happy to put in ~15k per day on foot, and like the idea of mixing in gondolas.

Also wondering if renting a car is necessary or if public transit would work to get to the start from Lyon, and then on to Geneva for our exit flight.

Also, at the huts, is food and drinks available for purchase or part of the booking cost? Or, do we need to carry our own supplies.

Many thanks for tips and guidance on planning.

Here is a resource for the Haute Route, Chamonix to Zermatt. Looks like it took 12 days when I look at one of the trip reports, so you may just want to bite off a chunk.

You could do sections without a car. Just looking at the little map, there are several places where the the trail intersects Swiss Postbus stations, like Champex and Arolla, and there is a train in Zermatt. As you can see, many of the huts serve breakfast and dinner. Note the challenge is getting reservations.
