Hey everyone,
I have been deep in planning mode for a Switzerland trip and wanted to share what I came up with, because I know how overwhelming it can be to figure out the best route when you only have a few days.
After a lot of research, I landed on a Zurich, Lucerne, and Interlaken route for 3 days, and I think it is honestly one of the best ways to see the country if you are short on time. It flows really well between cities, and you get a good mix of urban culture, lake scenery, and mountain views without constantly backtracking.
Day one I would spend entirely in Zurich. Walk through the Old Town, stroll along Lake Zurich, and maybe pop into the Kunsthaus if you are into art. The city is very walkable, so you do not really need to stress about transport on this day. Evenings in the Langstrasse neighborhood are great for food and a relaxed atmosphere.
Day two, take the SBB train to Lucerne. It is around 50 minutes, and the views along the way already start to get beautiful. In Lucerne the Chapel Bridge is the obvious must, and yes, it is touristy but genuinely impressive in person. The Lion Monument is nearby and takes about 10 minutes, but people find it surprisingly moving. If you have energy left, the cogwheel railway up Mount Rigi or Mount Pilatus gives you proper Alpine views and is very doable as a half-day add-on.
Day three, head to Interlaken. This is where Switzerland starts to feel almost unreal. Even if you skip Jungfraujoch because of the cost, Harder Kulm is a much cheaper alternative with views that are just as jaw-dropping. Paragliding is popular here too and not as expensive as you might think.
A few things I picked up during research that are worth knowing. The Swiss Travel Pass covers trains, most lake boats, and regional buses, so if you are moving between cities every day, it pays for itself quickly. Accommodation in Interlaken tends to run cheaper than in Zurich, so if you want to save some money, it might be worth spending two nights there instead of one. And spring or early autumn is generally the sweet spot for visiting since crowds are thinner and the weather is still good.
I found a really detailed guide that goes through everything day by day, including transport options, costs in Swiss francs, and some spots that most tourists miss. Worth bookmarking if you are in the planning phase. 3-Day Itinerary
Would love to hear from anyone who has done this route. I am still going back and forth on whether to squeeze in Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen on day one or if that would just make the day too rushed. Any thoughts welcome.
