We, a family of 7, (Three adults, two 16yo, one 10 and one 5) will be in Zurich the end of December and will spend the day there and go onto Interlaken that afternoon and stay 2 days. From there we will visit Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald First and possibly Lucern if we have time. I have read that we will get some type of city pass to travel with but can’t confirm that. So what would be the best for us staying in the central area. We will take a train to Austria when we leave there. I can’t check the price of train fares yet as they are not posted for a few months. Thanks for any help and advice. Also any food places that you would say are a must in any of those areas would be a huge help as well. Thanks!!!
No, there is no free city pass that will cover these areas. You will need a rail pass. There are many, many posts about the various passes.
You can download the SBB app to see Swiss rail prices. This will help you decide which pass us right for your group.
You will need a rail pass.
You do not need a rail pass to travel in Switzerland. As you will be in Switzerland such a short time, a pass might not make sense. You can just buy tickets for each journey.
If you can commit to a specific day and time, a super saver ticket might be a good option.

the city pass you are referring to only works within a city for their metro systems - that is, buses and trams.
Thanks for the help.
