We are doing a river cruise in Aug 2026, ending in Basel. We disembark the morning of Aug 12th and fly out from Zurich on Aug 15th. We will have 3 full days before we fly out. We would like to spend at least a half day in Zurich on the 14th. Looking for help on how to make the most of our time. Thanks

When we did this, we stayed in Luzern for three nights. Then took a direct train to the Zurich airport on the day of departure (1.25 hours). I suppose you could get off in Zurich for a few hours if you have a late enough flight out.
If you're on a Viking river cruise with their air arrangements, they will book the return out of Zurich with a small charge for the deviation. We planned our stay in Luzern on our own for a fraction of the cost of the Viking extension.

Agree with the above - we are not fans of Zurich or Basel - but we LOVE LOVE LOVE Lucerne.

To help you we need to know what you like & want to do. Hiking? Museums? Shopping & restaurants? Boat ride? Mountain viewpoints with no hiking? Etc.
