3-4 nights in Switzerland

If we only have 3 maybe 4 nights in Switzerland (flying into Zurich) and want to see Luzern and Bernese Oberland area, is it better to spend all 3 nights in Luzern and take day trips out to Wengen/Murren villages or do 1 night in Luzern and then book a hotel for 2 nights in one of those villages? This would be in late September probably.

The latter (1 night in Luzern and then 2 nights in the Jungfrau region)
Luzern is only 70 minutes by train from Zürich airport. So you get there fast. You can go around the town while you recover from your flight, with perhaps a café or a meal. If you have time and the weather is nice, a boat trip on the lake.
Luzern to Interlaken (interchange point for Wengen/Mürren etc.) is a scenic rail route over the Brünig Pass.
Now sufficiently refreshed you can enjoy the big mountains.
Going back, the quick route (the default route) to Zürich airport is by train Wengen/Mürren --> Interlaken --> Bern --> Zürich Flughafen (airport).

Thanks! We wouldn't be heading back to Zurich most likely, we'd be continuing on to Italy (either direct to Milan or through the Bernina Express, not sure which yet).
