25 wedding anniv. in Berner Oberland

We fly into Zurich Oct. 21 and will be in Switzerland 12 days. We have booked five nights at Ollie and Maria's B&B (Ricks favorite) in Gimmelwald from 10/26-31. We are still deciding where to go the first five days - leaning toward Lucerne then Montreux. We are outdoor enthusiasts and know we are not coming at the best time for hiking. In addition, we are from Florida! We are interested in beauty, romance and relaxation. We will use a Swiss Travel Pass. Any suggestions?

Lucerne is pretty, lake and mountains, and is an easy drive or train ride from the Zurich airport.

Rick’s favorite doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best place for you. Just make sure you know before you arrive into Gimmelwald that it’s remote with very little infrastructure. No hotels, no supermarkets, no restaurants and no ATM. You’ll need to travel on up via the gondola to Murren to have access to the above mentioned amenities. Murren is my perfect place. Gimmelwald is nice enough for a few hours, but it can be a bit austere.

As for hiking, assuming no snow, you could look into our favorite hikes in the area. Click on my name and you'll find the link.
