Hi. River cruise drops us off in Basel the first weekend of Dec. after stopping at an array of river towns' holiday markets. Want to extend stay 2-3 days... Not sure what to do though. Basel? Lucerne? Elsewhere? It's winter, so of course that will help dictate the decision. I like walking and taking photos... funky/quirky/interesting shops/museums/crafts...
Never been to the area so any thoughts would be appreciated! Danke! :)

Basel certainly has an interesting sense of humour, bet you could find quirky there. Besides, it is a nice place.

I may be late but I love Lucerne. It is an easy drive by car from Basel. We did that after our river trip up the Rhine. Great city.

Heck, there are trains at least every half hour from Basel to Luzern.
