I have 2 questions: 1. We will land in Zurich shortly after 6 am on Wednesday and would like to see the Alps. What is your recommendation for such a short time? Should we book a tour someplace or take a train? Where and which one?
2. We would need to leave Friday morning to Paris. How do you recommend we get to Paris?
The closest to Zurich would be Engelberg. You can take a cable car to the top of Mt Titlis and see the Alps all around if the weather is clear. Train to from the airport to Zurich HB, then Luzern, then Engelberg. You can be there in 2 hours. You may choose to stay in Engelberg, or in Luzern, which has other attractions like like cruises and other mountain top trips.
You can get to Paris in 4 hours by trains from Zurich main station.
Any suggestions on train fare? A half fare card, will it save me money? Will I really spend over $500 on train fare? I noticed other people on here suggest to wait to purchase train tickets once we get there.

Click through on the red purchase icon to get a true point-to-point ticket. Be sure to click on 'full fare" to get the ral price as the default is Half Fare. A Half Fare Card will only save money if you have 240 CHF worth of full fare tickets per person.
You should buy a nonrefundable tickets now for the train to Paris because those will be discounted.
Where will you be staying?
