2 days in Switzerland in December

Hello!

My husband and I will spend 2 full days/ 2 nights in Switzerland mid-December before taking a train to Munich. We are flying into Zurich and will fly out of Munich after spending some time there.

I want to preface this by saying we know this will be a fast paced trip, and we’re totally fine with that, i just want to make sure it’s doable. Also, I have been to this area, but only in the summer. My husband hasn’t been to this area at all.

We like good food, wine, beautiful sights. My husband loves Christmas so some place that has that feel. Would want to visit some Christmas markets, but not something we’d spend our entire trip on. We’re not into skiing, so likely wouldn’t want to do that. We are 27/28 for context.

We were considering staying in Zurich and taking a day trip to Lucerne since we are only there for a short time. I’ve spent time in Lucerne in the summer, but never in Zurich. We are open to staying/visiting wherever, as long as it makes sense time-wise and is convenient to get to Munich.

Any recommendations for activities/ restaurants in these different locations would be so helpful. Also, I know this is a Switzerland forum , but if you have any suggestions for Munich (or nearby cities), that would be great. We are planning to take one day trip from Munich to Salzburg, but have an extra day to fill.

This trip was somewhat last minute, so any recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks!

Zürich has a pretty good Christmas market (though not quite German-level) and is convenient to Munich so it makes sense for your stay! If you do not want to revisit Lucerne, Rigi is easily accessed from Zürich and could be snowy.
Bern would also be a good option especially in poor weather - many streets have arcades.

By the way, there's nothing last minute about a December trip 😉
