2-3 days in Lauterbrunnen in April

We will be traveling to Lauterbrunnen in April and are curious what everyone would recommend as the best hikes to take in everything this area has to offer in a short time. Is interlaken worth traveling to? Murren? Gimmelwald? The cable car to Schilthorn?
Thank you for your help!

Courtney,

April is probably not the best time of year to visit that area, but if you just want a brief look there will probably be enough activities to keep you busy. Hopefully the local farmers won't be spreading their "aromatic fertilizer" during your visit.

When are you going to be there? Note that the Schilthornbahn (Stechelberg / Mürren / Schilthorn) will be out of service for maintenance from 24 April to 28 April. The Allmend-Hubel Funicular will be out of service from 18 April to 16 June.

Regarding your questions......

  • Interlaken - I'm not sure there's much to see there, but if you want a look, it might be worth a few hours.
  • Mürren - definitely worth a visit and hopefully the weather is sunny. There will probably be some restaurants open at that time of year, and there's also a grocery store (Coop?) where you can buy sandwiches and other items. If you happen to be there during the closure of the Schilthornbahn, you can still reach Mürren via the BLM route (small mountain railway).
  • Gimmelwald - will probably be quiet in April but if you want to have a look at the small village that has been featured on so many of Rick's TV shows, it's worth a few hours.
  • Hiking - I'm not sure whether all the snow will be gone, so don't know what the hiking options will be. Hopefully one of the others can help with that.

We stayed in Wengen for 5 nights the 3rd week of March. We tagged along with my Son and his family who went for their Spring Break skiing trip. We all took a beautiful hike from Wengen down to Lauterbrunnen. It's a great hiking trail and a long way down. Don't think my 68 year old legs could do it going up.

One of the days the kids were all skiing, hubby and I took the train to Interlaken. Not impressed. Glad we didn't stay there.

Lots of hiking in Wengen and it's a short train wide from the valley. We're already talking about going back to this beautiful area.
