Help in identifying bases

Hello, I am planning a 12 days trip to Switzerland starting September end & the country is so beautiful and has so much to offer that I am extremely confused. We would prefer a slow paced holiday with a mix of city, and small towns or villages. Since we have a child we would also like to explore local parks. We love to explore culture & food.

Here are few cities I have zeroed down as base for day trip, we would like to keep 4 base & spend 3 night's in each base:
Land in Zurich
Lucerne
Base interlaken or Grindelwald or Lauterbrunen
Base Zermatt or Montreux or Vevey

Please advise, thank you in advance :)

You have a very good selection.
I would say, assuming that your 12 days equal 11 nights:

  • 3 nights in Lucerne: 1 day for the city itself, 1 for a day trip, possibility for another half-day trip
  • 5 nights in Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Mürren or Grindelwald (Wengen & Mürren are car-free), since there is a LOT to see and do in the region "Berner Oberland"
  • 3 nights: Montreux or Vevey, slight personal preference for Vevey but both are great. Plenty to see in the area.

If you are really eager to see the Mattehorn, you can either (a) spend 2 nights in Zermatt, taking 1 night from Lauterbrunnen and 1 from Montreux or (b) take 1 night from Lauterbrunnen, add it to Montreux, and plan a day trip from Montreux to Zermatt if weather allows.
