17 days Switzerland Itinerary

Hi I am travelling in June to switzerland for 17 days. I will cover Zurich, Montreux, Luzern, Zermatt and the Bernese Oberland area. I will be taking 2 scenic train rides. I have concluded that getting the 15 day Swiss travel pass is worth it.
I will spent 6 nights in Wengen where I base myself for hiking trips in Bernese Oberland . Thus I am wondering if I should also get the 6 day Oberland pass? Is it worth it since I have some discount on some of the mountain rides?
Would appreciate it if someone can help me out. Thanks

I have a very similar itinerary planned for June and will get the 15-day Swiss Travel Pass and have already purchased a saver day pass for my arrival day and a super saver ticket for my departure day. I will just use the Pass for the Bernese Oberland area and pay extra with the discount when needed. I also did this in June 2022 and it worked well.

Have a great trip!!

Agree with Claire. We traveled last fall 16 days in Switzerland. We spend 7 days in Wengen. We bought the half fare card and decided the reduced fare BO pass cost would not pay for itself. I was right as we spent les than 140 CHF on bus/train/cable car covered by the BO pass. Far less than the BO pass cost. We also spent less (not a huge amount) than what the Swiss Travel pass cost but the STP is definitely more convenient not having to buy every bus/train ticket.. Wengen is awesome - enjoy!

Hi. We are in same situation. Have 20 full days in switzerland. Arrive Geneva late afternoon and train to Montreux ( 3 nts) After trying to figure out best option. I think paying the fare from airport to Montreux and using Montreux riviera card for all our travels...it seems to cover a large area and all we need...then activate STP 15 day on our train to Zermatt (4 nts), BO area (4 nts), basel (3 nts), Lucerne (4 nits) and end at zurich for 2 where we fly from. I was interested in the flex option, but want the flexibility to come and go as needed. Will probly pay while in zurich, but trains not too pricey and we are staying across from airport (very early flight). Struggled with the BO pass, but decided not worth it. I just think we will deal with the discounts for the mountain areas.

Hi Kim and Claire, thank you for your replies.
With my STP, in order to enjoy the discount on the cable car rides in BO, does it mean I can’t buy tickets ahead online? I will need to queue at the ticket counter to purchase them?
Thanks

I’ve always just purchased there with no problems. For the Jungfrau, I bought the ticket at the Wengen train station the afternoon before. For mannlichen, I just get there a few minutes early, show them my Pass, and tell them what I want to do. Take the cable car up and then take the train from kleine Scheidegg back to Wengen. They’ll give you one ticket for all that. The Allmendhubel funicular in murren I also just buy at the ticket counter. I’ve never had to wait in line more than a minute or two.

No need to purchase the lift tickets ahead of time. I make sure the weather is OK at the top of the lift before I buy them. Even in June there may still be snow or fog up in the higher elevations.

All six times I have traveled to Switzerland, I have purchased the Swiss Rail Pass. I love it! Remember it includes admission to many museums and local buses in Zurich, Montreux and Lucerne plus post buses.

Have fun in Switzerland! It is my favorite European country.

You can buy tickets for the lifts ahead of time in most cases. Not now, but closer to summer when they are selling those tickets.

For example, for the Männlichen cablecar from Wengen, you use this website:

https://www.maennlichen.ch/en/summer/information/fare-prices-from-wengen.html

Hit “Book tickets” and on the next page you enter the date, number of people, and your chosen route (this one is limited to just that cablecar, not the roundtrip using cablecar, hike to Kleine Scheidegg, and train back to Wengen). If you want to do the hike, it is best to book that journey at the ticket office as it costs more than the simple roundtrip on the cablecar. You can also add the 5 CHF for the “Royal Ride” on top of the cabin, as seen in the photo.

https://www.maennlichen.ch/en/summer/information/fare-prices-from-wengen.html

The next page will give you an opportunity to get your pass discount—-use “GA’ for your Swiss Travel Pass.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I think it’s a good idea to check the weather when I’m there before booking tickets for any trail. Looking forward to my trip.
