12/27 - 1/7

Hi,

Experienced traveler, first time to Switzerland. Lover of small towns, cultural exchanges - traveling with spouse and 2 yo. We have planned:

4d 3n Lucerne area (car from ZRH)
4d 3n Bern/Lausanne/Gruyere region (drop off car at end of this leg)
4d 3n Gimmelwald/Berner Oberland
2d 1n Zurich

We are omitting Zermatt because we are not skiers and do not have lodging at this time (not many options left).

We would love any input on the itinerary or recommendations for this time of year as it will be after the Christmas Markets, etc.

Thank you!!

Just noting that Gimmelwald is tiny with very little tourist infrastructure (as in places to eat). You might consider staying in Mürren which is a short walk or gondola ride from there. Also no cars allowed in Gimmelwald or Mürren, so you'll have to stash it somewhere in the valley.

Its ski season all over, even in the Berner Overland, so make sure you have places to stay. I wouldn't want to drive in Switzerland in winter, especially since all those places (and even small towns) are easily and comfortably, reachable by rail.
