We have a very short stay in Switzerland this May and are trying to get the most out of a few days. We will be in Lucerne for at least 3 nights and may venture up to Murren or Wengen for a night or two. Our question: we have an 11 am flight out of Zurich on our last day. Is it possible to be in Lucerne the night before or is that cutting it too close? Should we stay in Zurich instead?

There used to be direct trains from Luzern to Zurich airport, but no more. You will have to change trains at Zurich HB, taking the escalators down 2 levels to the underground platforms. There are trains starting at 4:52 am taking a bit over 1 hour to the airport. If your flight is back to North America, 7:09 am is probably the last departure time you should consider, and a little earlier would be more prudent.

Thank you! Luckily it's not an international flight, so we don't need quite as much cushion, but it's still good to have some feedback here on the timing.

There are at least 2 direct trains to Zurich HB every hour, and trains to the airport are like every 5 minutes in the morning. All trains to the airport leave from either track 33 or 34, which share the same platform in the underground station.
