10 days Switzerland tour base question

Hello everyone

Myself 39yr old and my wife 37year old visiting Switzerland first time from india probably end of June this year for 9 to 10 days. We are aiming for budget travelling but want to explore the country as much as possible . It is dream destination for both of us.
We are interested in visiting famous tourist destinations . I was wondering is it possible to rent a apartment in the centre of Switzerland and then tour the country with the help of public transport or we have to constantly change our location ? We are interested not to change our staying location frequently .
We are vegan and planning to cook our food most of the time and very few restaurant visits.

Please advice and give tips to have wonderful vacation.

Thanks in advance

I'd suggest either Interlaken or Luzern. Both are central rail hubs. Luzern is a city and Interlaken a large town, closer to the mountains.
Of course Switzerland is not known as a budget friendly destination, but worth the extra expense in my opinion.

Bern is just further away from the mountains, which I assume you will want to visit. Of course, that will result in lower price of holiday rentals. Does that make up for more of your time and cost of travelling?

Distances are deceiving in Switzerland as the mountains make traveling slower than you might think. I wouldn't stay in Bern as stated above - you're too far from the mountains which is what you came to see.
