10 Days in Switzerland - Itinerary Advice

My husband and I are planning a 10-day trip to Switzerland at the end of August and beginning of September. This will be our first visit, and I would love thoughts on itinerary that time of year. We reserved three nights in Ascona on Lake Maggiore at the beginning of our stay, and we are thinking of visiting Wengen and Lucerne as well.

I would welcome any thoughts on this itinerary or other must-see spots this time of year. We live in New York City, and we were not planning to spend much time in any of the major urban areas, but would certainly be open to a day or two if it's worthwhile!

Thanks!

It that 9 nights? Do you have flights? If so, where/when do you land/depart? That makes a big difference in suggestions.

We are planning to fly overnight on Tuesday, August 26, and return either September 6 or 7. We are flexible on airports, but we assumed we would fly into Milan. Open to suggestions on how to structure the itinerary and return flight! Thanks!

So into Milan and out of Zurich? I'd recommend maximizing your time in the Berner Oberland. No one is ever ready to leave. Add as many days as possible.
Perhaps conclude with 2-3 nights in Lucerne, which is an easy commute by train directly into the Zurich airport.
Have a great trip.

If you can get a flight in the afternoon of your departure, I’d do this
Milan airport > Ascona 3 nights > Luzern 3 nights > Wengen 5 nights > Zurich airport from Wengen

If your only option is a morning flight, then you’ll have to do some backtracking, as you have to go through Luzern to get to Wengen from Ascona. If your flight is before noon…
Milan airport > Ascona 3 nights > Wengen 5 nights > Luzern 3 nights > Zurich airport from Luzern
