10 days in southern Switzerland, Australia and northern Italy

Is this trip possible? Scheduled to go in beginning of November. Where should I fly into? Can I travel mostly by train? I want a relaxing trip to see the Alps, immerse in the culture and meet locals. I am moderately active and in my early seventies. Advice requested and appreciated.

In the mountains/Alps at this time of year from my experience is the time many places close, before ski season begins just before Christmas. You will find places, but the amenities and excursion opportunities will be limited. It is still a nice time of year if you are ready to sit, have a coffee, read and talk with guests. I'll assume you will be traveling by public transportation, and I'll let the experts respond.

Edit: You might wait until Weihnachten und Silvester. Price might double. We are older too but have extended families living across the world. Honestly, I would pick family places like Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis with a good half-board that caters to families. Maybe a better room and some wellness for yourself that you prefer. Many people will speak English and multiple languages. Of course, if you go to the local haunts, you will get the local culture, but if you don’t speak German your experience might not be what you are seeking. But… when one wants to talk, you’ll find a way from both sides. Have fun with the families on vacation. Enjoy the Holidays.
