We will be getting of the boat in Basel 9/1/25. We then would like to train to a central location to do day trips out of. Would like to see Lauderbrennen for sure. Maybe Zurich. Then eventually train to Zermatt 1 or 2 nights Train to Geneva a couple nights then fly home. We are 3 seniors
Luzern would be a good first stop.
Should we stay in Lauderbrennen are a few days or just day trip from Lucerne?
Check possible trip travel durations at sbb.ch/en the official train site. You won't be driving will you?
Note Correct spelling of Lauterbrunnen.
Luzern to Lauterbrunnen is 2.5 hours ONE WAY.
What are your interests, must-sees?
Hiking, city museums?
Maybe something like this: Murren or Wengen, Zermatt, Geneva. With only a week, I think adding Lucerne would be too much, unless you cut out Zermatt.
We are into cultural, walking villages, city scenery
Based on your interests, I think you might like Lucerne, Murren/Wengen, and Geneva. Zermatt I would consider more for nature lovers.
Thank you. How many days in each. Place do you think we need?
With only one week, you don’t have time for more than 3 locations. I would recommend 2 nights in Lucerne, 3 nights in Murren; 2 nights in Lausanne or Montreaux on Lake Geneva. The city of Geneva is quite expensive and not that interesting
Thank you.
