Not much is ever mentioned about Basel and didn’t want to buy a guide for just a short stay. Thought I would see what was some good things to check out. We will be there the beginning of November so weather could be a factor. Plan to Uber from the airport or take bus- any opinions? Land at 10:30am. One good thing is their Fall festival is going on so if anyone has any experience with that it would be appreciated. Definitely plan to walk around but the group walking tours are not running during the week that time of year (did not want to pay the price for a private tour). I have downloaded the walking tour from the visitors website. We like museums and history as well. Any help would be appreciated.
If you are staying in a hotel in Basel that night, the bus from the airport to the train station is free, as well as any public transport to your hotel. If a fare inspector checks you, just show your hotel confirmation. Hotel stays in Basel include free public local transportation and they will give you a guest card at check in.
Visit the colorful Rathaus in the old town. Have lunch or dinner in a cafe along the river.
Basel is renowned for its many museums.
Thank you both for the suggestions.
Paper museum, chain ferry, several excellent museums, great city to walk around (good for jetlag), use the free (with hotel) trams and buses, there's even a zoo.
I haven't been to the autumn fest but the folks in Basel are known for their sense of humour and ability to have a good party. I'm sure that you will have a good time.
