After several days of hiking and exploring the Berner Oberland, Zermatt, and St Moritz areas in July, we’re planning on spending two nights in Zurich before we fly home. What are the best things to do in Zurich, or nearby? (We’re visiting Lucerne at the beginning of our trip.) We’re using public transportation.
There are a couple of things to do:
- Water bus along the river (OK with day transit pass)
- Boat ride till Wollishofen (ditto)
- Swim in Lake Zurich (not in the river)
- Tea at Sprungli
- Lindt tour
a train ride to Zug
a train ride to Basel which has plenty to see
several scenic castles nearby
southwest of Zurich on the way to Zug is a wild area with fab walks and a steam train from time to time
this might give you some ideas:

Or you could, I dunno, maybe buy Rick's guidebook?
@phred, yes, I already have the newest edition of Rick Steves’ guidebook for Switzerland, and I’ve read the chapter on Zurich. I’m interested in hearing about other ideas for things to see and do.
