My husband and I are just wrapping up a wonderful stay at Hotel Steinbock in Lauterbrunnen (Sept. 21 - 26). Extremely convenient: directly across from train station, next to grocery store, two doors down from a great cafe. The main hotel is in an old-style chalet a few steps from the station -- we are in the "train station dependency" annex. Very comfortable, an extensive breakfast buffet, and the price is lower than many other places in town. (We even got a rebate of 80 CHF because we stayed for 5 nights.) The main hotel has a good restaurant (some say the best pizza in town). An after -work hang-out of local folks, so it has an authentic feel. And best of all: we have a balcony with a view of the mountains!

This is good to see! We stayed there many years ago when we could find nothing else for an impromptu New Years trip and we had one of the two rooms in the main hotel that had a private bathroom. It overlooked the trains and had a balcony. Nothing luxurious but adequate, comfy, and you are right: a great breakfast, nice people, good locals factor. Not sure I agree on the pizza opinion as there are some other great options but they make a good effort!

We stayed at Hotel Steinbock in June of 2018. Loved it. A little quirky, but very Swiss. We had a room with a shared bath, which never was a problem. Easy access to the lift to take us up to Murren on the way to Schilthorn. Best part was the balcony to our room where we could sit and watch all the tourist crowds head back to the big cities on the train while we sat and relaxed, comfortable for the night in a beautiful little town.
