Traveling as a group of three, early September. Please send any recommendations.
Also Grindelwald and places nearby. Thanks
Lauterbrunnen is heavily booked most years at that time. What is “moderate” in price to you and where have you considered so far? Have you checked www.booking.com or looked at the hostels?
Grindelwald is fabulous. Stunning views of the Eiger.
We rented a chalet therefor a week with friends and it was all so wonderful!
None of us were fond of Lauterbrunnen which we visited. It is down in a valley vs being up high in mts.like Grindelwald, Wengen, Murren.
Try AirBnB and VRBO, we rented an apartment in the Lauterbrunnen valley thru VRBO.
There are less expensive places in Gimmelwald. Gimmelwald is charming and right in the mountains--gorgeous. Do know that you will need to go up to Murren or down to Lauterbrunnen for activity and restaurants.
If you do not find anything at a price you like in Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald, there is plenty of accommodation in Wilderswil down the valley towards Interlaken. The location is not quite as dramatic but still surrounded by mountains and fairly convenient.
Everything is clean. It's Switzerland. Just concentrate on price and location.
i spoke to people who were staying at the Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen when we were in Switzerland this past June. They were a family of 4 with two teen boys and said it was a great hotel, good staff and nice rooms.
I can recommend Chalet Gerbera in Wengen. Our group stayed in the OG apt and the UG apartment in June. Rates were 190-210 CHF/nt for 2br/1ba. Very clean. Laundry onsite. Fabulous views.

It's been a while, but I have stayed in a private room at the hostel there. Bathroom down the hall. Also enjoyed a big top floor room at the hotel Staubbach that may have held three (great breakfast), and a regular room at Hotel Oberland where we also enjoyed the restaurant.
