Still looking for a hotel in Basel

We are staying one night in Basel. Arriving in the evening and leaving early. I asked once before and got great recommendations but they were all on the high side of what we want to spend for a few hours sleep.
We don’t need to be in main city center but somewhat close to a train station would be nice. We could even stay outside the city if necessary.

Thanks for any help!

What rate are you looking for? I was going to recommend the Motel One chain but I see that someone already mentioned that hotel and a couple of others in your previous post that are in the $160-$170 USD range. These are prices for a random May date because I don’t know when your cruise departs.

EDIT: there is an Ibis Hotel near the train station in the $140 range.

Switzerland is expensive, especially in the cities. I'm not sure you'll find anything much cheaper than what was already suggested. Did you try looking on Booking.com? It might be worth spending a little more than you'd like for the convenience of being near the train station.

A few years ago, I stayed at City Inn right by the main train station and found it totally adequate. Could be loud if facing the huge streetcar station though.

I've been happy at the Ibis Basel Bahnhof, just out the back of the station, with convenient trams outside (no noise).

There is also an Ibis Budget the other direction but I know nothing about it. It should be clean, minimalistic and a bit less expensive.

You might look in the Saint-Louis suburb over the French border - be aware that there is a lot of industry in Saint-Louis and the Basel section adjoining.

We are going in mid June and the hotels mentioned before are in the 3-400 Chf range. For one night just to sleep, don’t want to pay quite that much.
That’s why I was thinking maybe we could stay outside of Basel but still near a train station. We won’t be spending hardly any time in the city anyway.
I’ll check Booking, that’s a good idea. Thanks!

I think you might be looking at dates near the big Art Basel art fair, scheduled for June 16-19. So, you will run into limited availability and very high prices.

Looking back at your posting history, I see that your cruise leaves from Dreiländereck.
This is basically next to the German town of Weil am Rhein.
Your ability to stay there will depend on Covid regulations, but that's where I would look first.
A bit further, there are plenty of cheaper chain hotels next to Basel airport, which is in France.

Great advice! We are happy to stay out of the city since we won’t be there long enough to enjoy it. I’ll look elsewhere for a hotel. Thank you!!

We stayed at MotelOne in Basel. It had the lowest rate when I did my research, and we were very happy with our stay. The location was great, and the hotel was spotless. It was by the trolley and an easy ride from the train station.

The Ibis Budget Basel City (near the station) is available on Saturday 18 June for 2 people one night for CHF 168 including Basel transport pass. Breakfast CHF 12pp extra.
