Lucern hotel with balcony

We will be staying in Lucern for three nights in April. We would love to stay right on the river and get a room with a balcony. We are looking at Hotel Des Alpes but I would like to know if there are other hotels in the area that have balconies as well. Thank you.

Hotel des Balances, just down the street from the des Alpes has rooms with balconies with river views. The Schweizerhof has lake view balcony rooms. Richard Wagner finished writing "Tristan and Isolde" while staying there.

Hotel des Balances is close by, also on the river with rooms with balconies.

I will see what else I can suggest. I assume you want a view of the river to enjoy from that balcony?

I want to mention that what you are envisioning as a balcony at Hotel des Alpes maybe quite a big larger than most of the actual balconies are. There are a few rooms with large balconies. The rest are barely big enough to set a chair out on. If your heart is set on a balcony, confirm it is the size you want.

I think the Hotel Des Alpes will be more reasonable, price-wise. Book directly with the hotel, and mention RS for a possible discount. They don't have many river- view rooms with balconies, so book asap. There were so kind to us in 2021 when our flight was canceled, and we arrived 24 hrs later, and they did not charge us for the missed night.
I wish they still had the breakfast buffet, but you can order breakfast off the menu. On farmers market days (Saturday and ?) you can get fresh yogurt, cheese, fruit, and breads for your breakfast.
Enjoy this charming city.

Carol now Retired has a good point about the size of the balcony. We have booked rooms in Italy that had a “balcony” that barely had room for a chair. I do not recall any like that in the Swiss Alps. Our hotel in Luzern (Hotel Ameron Flora) did not offer balconies.

If the hotel, website does not mention the size of the balcony for the room you are considering, you can find photos on booking.com that may clarify for you. I see room photos from both Hotel des Alpes and Hotel des Balances that show a table and chairs for 2 on the balcony, but you will need to check the room type—-those may be “Superior” or even a Suite. I did see the Hotel des Alpes photo on. Poking.com said it was a 12 meter squared double room in the photo, so that is likely a standard ( fairly small) room.

I just booked a room at the Hotel Des Alpes for next summer. You will need to pay attention to the room size and balcony. At first, it seemed like the room with a balcony overlooking the river and Chapel Bridge was not available. About a week later, I got a notification I could upgrade the room. Which I did with the bigger balcony and a bigger price tag.

We had that top floor balcony room in 2019 at Hotel Des Alpes. We still talk about it. We ate dinner outside on our balcony at the table and chairs, enjoyed watching the swans, seeing the Chapel bridge and looking at the mountains. But we knew some folks whose rooms were so small they could barely move.
We did mention Rick Steves because we were joining the Best of Switzerland tour and arrived a few days early.
Hope you get it, if you can.

Dinner was a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store at the train station. We found the restaurant prices steep. As I recall, the room had a refrigerator. You could ask?

Sounds ridiculous but I booked a room with a balcony at the Fairmont San Juan with a garden view. The balcony was completely enclosed by cement walls which I realized when I dragged a chair out to enjoy my coffee. No explanation given...photo of rooms with balcony did not show that. I got moved bit desk staff seemed surprised I wasn't happy

Stayed in Hotel Balances in Luzern and was on the top floor where we had a delightful room with a balcony patio…..it was THE BEST….faced the river and had small tables and sofas to enjoy while there……and their food in their restaurant is DELICIOUS!
