Our recent trip to Switzerland and Italy concluded with an overnight in Locarno, prior to taking the Treno Gottardo to Zürich for our flight home. I booked Hotel Geranio au Lac based on the location—-right on the lakefront promenade and just 5 minutes on foot from the main train station. It turned out to be a great choice—-even nicer than I imagined.
Once we take our luggage up to our room in the elevator, we like to use the hotel stairs instead. Although we were on the 5th floor, the descent and ascent were quite pleasant, on a lovely wide curving marble staircase at every level. Our large lakeview room had a nice balcony with a table where we could sit with a glass of wine to enjoy the beautiful scene. The bathroom was very nice and modern, with a large walk-in shower, and toilet and bidet in a separate compartment. The bed was very comfortable. And everything was as spotless and well-maintained as one would expect in Switzerland.
My husband actually fell in love with Locarno—-where one can “sleep Swiss and eat (as well as speak) Italian”. We will be back, I hope.
