In Luzern I used the Hotel Des Alpes (from Rick's book). I got a better rate by e-mailing them than I would have gotten on their website booking engine (this was true at my hotels in Mürren and Lausanne, as well). It was fine and in a great location, and I would stay there again. I'm not sure if it's in your price range or not (it was "reasonable" for Switzerland, which of course is "expensive" for most other places - 130 CHF per night for a single).

Is there a reason you're staying in Interlaken instead of Mürren, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, or Gimmelwald? I was very glad I followed the "usual" advice, both from RS and on this Forum, and stayed in the Alps (I used the Hotel Edelweiss in Mürren) rather than near the Alps (which is where Interlaken is). It needn't be costly, either. By e-mailing them directly, my single room at the Edelweiss was about 95 CHF per night.

We have been to Switzerland several times. In Luzern we have stayed and will be staying again at Backpackers Lucern, 42 CHF per person, shared bath. Across the street from great park that goes to the lake. Is close to the train station, bus or 10 minute walk. Good kitchen, grocery nearby, good staff. We are staying again in June. For meals one great choice is the Manor Department Store cafeteria upstairs. Great food moderate prices. Don't miss Mt Rigi on a clear day. Consider the Swiss Pass. Expensive but basically all boats, buses, trains, etc. I agree with previous post, stay in Lauterbrunnen. We will be there again, great buffet breakfast, clean and well run. Rates vary according to room, some with great views of the waterfall and valley. Switzerland is expensive, but well worth it. Rick Steves has great info. Also a hostel in Lauterbrunnen we have heard good things about by the train station, but we haven't stayed there. Enjoy

Thx all for your replies.
I have been to the Berner Oberland area in previous trip. And it is definitely one of the most beautiful places in the world.
