Lake Lucerne - best way to see it? + Titilis & Pilatus

My family of four (kids are 18 & 20) will be in Lucerne for only 1.5 - 2 days. We will arrive from Strasbourg at 11:00 or 12:00, will need to drop off bags and will be ready to get started.

Day 1 walk around town, eat, evening boat tour -
Day 2 We want to see Titilis & Pilatus - can we do both in one day? We will do the Mt Pilatus Golden Round Trip

Does it make sense to do a boat tour and the Golden Round Trip? We want to see the lion!

Thanks in advance :)

Sounds sensible. The old town is only a 5 minute walk across the river from the station, and the Lion is at the far side of the old town, 5-10 minutes further. The Lion is a bit "yes, I've seen it" and that's it. The old town is good to walk around, lots of old buildings in narrow streets and all pedestrianised, plus the famous chapel bridge and the town walls around the back of the old town. I hope your hotel is in the old town.

Titlis needs a full day. First you have to get to Engelberg by train, and back at the end. The trip is nice, getting further and further into the mountains, And once you get to the top you do not want to be rushed, plenty to do and see. Engelberg town is also worth an hour when you get back down again.
With 1½ to 2 days I would say Titlis or Pilatus, not both.
Are you coming soon? So far this Spring and Summer we have been having very wet weather, and more rain forecast for next week. This is not how June should be. Going up mountains should not be done if it is cloudy. Check the webcams on http://www.titlis.ch/en first, and be prepared to be flexible.

We (husband and 20 yr old), are here in Luzern with erratic weather, but going to Mt. Pilatus today was probably the most exhilarating and exciting part of our trip so far. The weather was cloudy and rainy, but today is our last day here, and we were not about to miss the thrilling scenery and excursion. The clouds and rain came and went, but we had enough time to have spectacular views. We went to the tourist office (i) at the train station where we bought our passes that included the 20 minute train ride to Alpnachstad, the 40 minute ascent to Pilatus on the cogwheel train, then the descent by cable car and gondola, as well as the return on Bus 1 to Luzern Bahnhof. In spite of the weather, we did some short hikes and had magnificent views. If you go, dress warmly, as it was about 38 degrees F at the top. We also did a two hour boat tour afterwards even though it was rainy, starting at the pier across from the train station. Loved it! If you want, instead of taking the train to Mt Pilatus, you can go by boat on the lake. A fabulous day!
