Hotel Goldener Schluessel - on noisy party street

I booked this hotel for its central location in Bern.
We were put on second floor on street side where nightly partying goes on till closing. We asked for a rm change but were told none was avail. It is summer and very hot so closing the only window was not an option and the room has no ac. Earplugs were ineffective very loud music and partying. And they charged $242.00 per ni double with breakfast.
Be warned. We could have stayed at the youth hostel just up the street with same noise level for half the cost.
The desk staff was rude to us when we checked out.

Were you rude to them first, or was this out of the blue? Maybe you were complaining?

The reviews on Trip Advisor are less than stellar. Absent a shortage of rooms meeting my needs, I'd not stay here.

Posts like this are a great reminder to ask for rooms in the back in most hotels and certainly when there is outdoor eating or a busy pedestrian street. This happens at a lot of hotels, not just this one.

Experience taught me that asking for a quiet room, even well in advance, is no guarantee one is provided. Managing reservations, even for a small hotel, must be a nightmare.

It's a bummer to spend a lot of money on something and then not have it turn out as you were hoping. Darn.

I like centrally located lodging, and have been tempted to click yes on a tempting room reservation more than once before realizing that just outside the window there would be cafe tables bubbling or service vehicles screeching by.

Better perhaps, I decided, to trade a few minutes walk from a side street location for a better chance at a quiet night.
