Has anyone stayed at Hotel Baslertor or its sister place, Hotel Pension Rösli, recently? It looks like they have changed owners since my copy of Rick's Switzerland book came out. They are getting some really poor reviews on Trip Advisor. Thanks.

It looks like it has been getting pretty terrible reviews for years.
Moral of the story? Never book a Rick Steves recommended hotel without verifying that it's a decent place on Trip Advisor or through some other third party. In his effort to provide some budget-conscious options, he picks some real dogs. I've found Trip Advisor to be far more reliable as a source for choosing hotels than the Rick Steves guides (though the guides are good for other things).

As an aside, I stayed at Hotel des Alpes in Lucerne in October and was very pleased.
