Never been to Geneva, but we generally like staying in the Old City whereever we go. Any recommendations for a small hotel that is nice, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Geneva is not inexpensive so it is difficult finding inexpensive accommodations. The Tor Hotel Geneve is a small family owned place that is close to everything. www.torhotel.com

Have you considered Lausanne? Rick prefers it over Geneva and I have to agree.
