Any suggestions for Hotels in Bern. We'd like to American accommodations. Shower/air conditioning etc. Also would like to be in walking distance to old town. Thank you! Traveling early October.

Try this hotel - Hotel Allegro Kursaal. www.kursaal-bern.ch.
I stayed here on a RS tour in July. Nicest Rick Steves tour hotel I have ever stayed in! Close to old town but the great thing about Bern is the hotels give you a free transportation pass for the duration of your stay. For info see myswissalps.com/bern/travel

I also liked Hotel Allegro in Bern and also took the Best of Switzerland tour this July. Super easy to reach on public transportation. Easy to get to the train station and the old part of town. I would return.
