In Basel, we stayed at the Motel One near the Barfusserplatz. There are several restaurants/pubs on the platz. We ate at one and had tarte flambe/flammekuchen. It typically has onions, gruyere, some white creamy cheese, I think called quark. And, oops, just recalled it has bacon. I would guess, they could make it without bacon or have a vegetarian option. This dish similar to pizza or a flatbread is traditional to Alsace, France, and apparently surrounding.
