Albergo Stella in Lugano

We stayed one night at Albergo Stella in Lugano, Switzerland, as our first night in Europe (after we flew in to Milan Malpensa and took the bus from the airport to Lugano) in June 2014. The only hard part about finding the hotel was figuring out how to get through the train station--find one of the underground passages in the station that take you under the tracks. The hotel is uphill, just around the corner from track 4. Our room (#24) was very clean, and the beds were comfortable. The in-room wifi worked. The air-conditioning unit worked very well. The ensuite bathroom is an all-in-one unit (like a cruise cabin bathroom) but worked fine for us. There is a mini-bar fridge in the room (where we put our water bottles). Our room had a small balcony (which we did not use, but it was pretty). The breakfast was very nice (croissants, bread, meats, cheeses, strawberry yogurt, OJ, cereal, good coffee), and there were tables outside where we could eat. The room was non-smoking and did not smell of smoke. The walk down to (and up from) the city center was not as steep as I expected. I really enjoyed my stay, and the 5% Rick Steves discount was honored.

(I am really missing the old Guidebook Feedback--I've used it to help me choose hotels for many years. I would normally have put this review there, but I don't think it exists anymore.)
