accommodations in Luzern

There will be 5 of us and are planning 4 nights in Luzern. We would like a place right on the lake outside of town. We will have a car so that's not a problem. We are more interested in being on the lake or a beautiful view of the lake from above. It would be nice to be close to one of the boat docking locations around the lake if possible so we can tour around to the other side. If you have any suggestions please let me know. thank you in advance

Budget is not an overriding concern. Of course its always nice to save money but memories are more what we are looking for at this point

I had a nice stay at the Hotel des Alpes (recommended in the Rick Steves Switzerland book). Be sure to e-mail them directly rather than trying to book on their website; the website booking engine doesn't show all available rooms.

You did not give a month; season makes a great deal of difference in Switzerland.

While you wrote Luzerne, I want to offer the idea that we took our car to Viznau and stayed at the small but luxurious and expensive Hotel Vitznauerhof . While it was under renovation at the time, a huge, classic resort hotel in Weggis is now open again, I think. They are only "associated" by the fact that one is walkable from the cable car to the mountain, and the other is walkable to the cog railway to the mountain (Rigi.) The boat ride from Luzerne is not long, and it's a good situation to drive around the lake and visit a few smaller towns. Making that triangular mountain trip, we gave up on the town bus and walked back to Viznau from Weggis, after a nice lunch near the shore.

You might say that we slighted Luzerne, but we went back on the boat for a second day there. Just an idea for you to consider.

Note that despite our having great flexibility, unusual for visitors to Switzerland on this newsboard, we still had to deal with significant clouds when riding up to the summit of Rigi, on the best day we could find.

Tim and Harold
Thank you both for your input...both are good choices.
I was planning on taking the boat over to Vitsnau for a day trip but I will now look into the hotel you suggested.
We will be going in mid June and are hoping for no clouds to enjoy the mountain views. Would you recommend Rigi, Pilatus, Titlis?
Thanks again

Is it possible to take a day trip from Lucerne to Vitsnau by boat? We will be in Luzern for several days before tour starts. We are looking for ideas to fill a couple of days.
Thanks
