Came across this article - by 2024 the country will be cashless - so even before that it seems unlikley you will need any Krona https://interestingengineering.com/sweden-how-to-live-in-the-worlds-first-cashless-society
There is so much wrong with this article, the author has really made a mountain out of a molehill. In short, no, there will not be any digital currency introduced this year. An no, cash will not be useless after March 2023.
But yes, Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere.
Badger,
How about American Express? I’m going to Sweden next May on Rick’s Scandinavia tour. Can’t wait! My first visit there. My grandmother is Swedish and I’ve always been curious about your country.
Some places accept American Express but many don't, so don't rely on it as your only way to pay for things.
I was in Sweden three years ago and I didn't spend any cash. My credit card was accepted everywhere for any amount. (I had heard about this and didn't even bother getting any Swedish Krona.) I was supposed to go back last year but we all know how that ended.
