I am just starting to plan for a trip to Helsinki for the World Dog show, August 8-10. I’ve watched Rick’s Monday Night travels about Iceland, and Scandinavia, and have bought the book as well. Everywhere looks fabulous, but I’m trying to pare things down and would really appreciate any input from more experienced travellers than I.
Here’s my rough plan.
Leave Vancouver BC for Iceland.
Reykjavik (3 or 4 days) exploring the city. I don’t like driving cars, and love to walk or take trains.
Fly from Iceland to Gothenburg, Sweden. (2-3 days)
My grandfather emigrated from Uddevalla, and I’d love to explore some of west Sweden, but I haven’t found much information about the area.
I’d love to explore the parks, or kayak, but perhaps that’s too ambitious without a car.
Then, take a train to Stockholm, and explore that city for 2-3 days
. Take cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki, a couple days before the Dog Show, which lasts 3 days.
Fly home. :)
I’d greatly appreciate any suggestions or guidance.
Thank you in advance.
are you bringing dogs with you?
No, only myself.
You might want to change the title of the thread to something a bit more relevant to your question if you want answers.
It's however perfectly possible to explore the west coast in a few days if you want to. Uddevalla is about an hour from Gothenburg by train so very easy to reach. Can be done as a day trip. And parks are also easy to reach. Kayaking is also possible, are you looking at renting a kayak and explore on your own or are you looking for a tour?
Thank you for your thoughts. ❤️
You have made a great plan and seem to not need much guidance. While in Gothenburg you could experience the forested Delsjö nature reserve, which is so close to the city center you could even walk there. Otherwise take tram line 5 to tram stop Töpelsgatan and walk past the old stables at Storatorpsvägen 4. After 10 minutes you reach the large lake. Have a swim or walk around it towards the east.
