I understand that Sweden is almost completely cashless but I do wonder if this applies to buying a snack on the street from a vendor with a cart or a food truck? Thanks in advance.
We did the Rick Steves Scandinavia tour last summer and just used our apple watch with apple pay on all our purchases and it worked perfectly, even for cabs. We almost never take a trip without some of the local currency but I had read the reviews from people before us and they were right, you really don't need pocket cash in Sweden, Denmark or Norway.
Thanks but we are old fashioned retired types, lol. Don't have an Apple watch or Apple Pay account. Our choices will be limited to credit cards and cash.
While I cannot address the situation in Sweden it was necessary to use cash for some street food vendors in Copenhagen, Denmark and in Lucerne, Switzerland last summer.
We hit a few places in London this year that only took cash, as well.
To answer the question in the heading, probably. It depends a bit on where you are and what you are buying, but while many food truck accept cards, not all do. Swish, a payment app, has become very popular as an alternative to cards. Especially for smaller business since they don't need any special equipment. For markets, cards can sometimes be used but not always. And for flea markets and similar, cards are rarely accepted.
It also depends a bit on where you are, if you are in popular spots for tourists, cards are more likely to be accepted.
Thanks for the clarification everyone. I will get some local currency in small bills.
