When to book

My husband and I will be 5 nights in Stockholm (followed by 5 nights in Copenhagen) in late June. I see pricing for hotels that some have found in past years - and am not finding matching pricing. Does there seem to be a better time frame to book than another? Or should I just keep an eye out for "deals"? I have to admit these 2 locations feel more difficult than some other cities we have visited - and I am sure it is just my lack of knowledge.

no just keep an eye out for deals or go at a less desirable time like winter;
no doubt things for travelers are more expensive up in Denmark and Scandinavia in general compared to the rest of Europe with the exceptions of Switzerland and the UK;

but I believe you will find the flights to Denmark and Scandinavia cheaper than to the more popular places in the rest of Europe so you have to consider that.

has your rent or property taxes or cost of living from past years gone up where you live?

When you say late June, what specific dates for Stockholm? Midsommar's Eve and Midsommar's Day are June 22 - 23 and not much is open.

Thanks for replies! We will arrive on June 24 for 5 nights, so hopefully that will work out. But I will definitely keep Midsummer in mind and play with dates.

Unfortunately we are still limited on travel dates by work. Some day we'll have the flexibility to travel shoulder or off season!

Have you looked the deals through Destination Stockholm? http://www.destination-stockholm.com/

I used this in 2003, when it was called Stockholm a la Card. You get a hotel room plus a card good for transportation and most attractions. At least in 2003, this was a great deal, and made my total per-day cost in Stockholm cheaper than many other, allegedly cheaper cities.

Thanks, Harold! I have looked at this (and at the Stockholm Pass, which definitely looks like a good deal) but hadn't seen many hotel options yet. I probably just need to choose a few good hotel options for us and then do a regular check.

And for anyone who may be searching for hotel names to research in the future, this one appeared that I had either not seen or not considered: Villa Källhagen. I have booked and can report back after the trip. While not perfect for everyone (especially for those staying a shorter time), it seems like it will fit what we may need: wifi, aircon (my husband is very miserable in heat that doesn't bother me), more room space than many central hotels, ensuite bathroom, and on a canal by a park. It is about a 15 min bus ride into central Stockholm with very regular (and frequent) bus service and out in nature so we can enjoy both aspects (and hopefully no noise at night) and good reviews. Free bike use, breakfast included - all for about $200/night. I know there are places better for the budget (that I might stay if it were only me).

Anyway, I appreciate the encouragement. I had been looking regularly for several months and could just not settle on what "felt right". And I had searched and read everything on the forum itself for suggestions - so thought I would throw this one in the mix for future readers. :)
