We are starting in Copenhagen and traveling to Stockholm. Should we travel down the west or east coast? Which is more scenic?

It depends on if you are doing this route all in the same day. There are direct trains that take only 5.5 hours. Those usually go up the east coast to Stockholm. The whole southern half of Sweden is rolling farms so for scenery it will be similar either way. It will definitely take longer to go up the west coast as you will have to transfer in Goteborg. You can look up schedules on the Deutsche Bahn and you can buy tickets on the Swedish Rail website. I hope this helps some.

If you're driving, the west coast is more rugged, has less chance of fog, and the road runs closer to the coastline.
If you have two days, spend the night in Stromstad and then head just about straight east across the top of the lakes the next day.
