Visby or Oland?

Hi all,

My wife and I are spending 4 days in Stockholm in late July (no kids) and then doing one of the following:

Option 1: Take ferry to Visby and spend two nights there, catch ferry to Oskarshamn and spend the night in Kalmar, next day catch the train to Copenhagen

Option 2: Take train to Kalmar and spend a night there, then spend two days/nights in Oland based in Borgholm, next day return the car and catch the train to Copenhagen

Which should we do? One thing we're wondering about is whether Visby is going to be packed with tourists to the point that it's hard to get into restaurants, lines everywhere, etc. That probably makes us prefer Option 2. But, not needing to rent a car sounds kind of nice and I hear Visby is beautiful (but also hearing the same about Oland!). It looks like Oland sure is easy to get around, too, though

Thanks!
Coleman

I hope you have a room booked in Visby. There's very little available for this summer.

I have the impression that Visby is easier than Oland without a car.

We do have a place booked in Visby. Sounds like it's pretty crowded, though?

Not having a car is sort of nice, but willing to get one to see Oland.

If you have a place booked in Visby, go with Visby, it is an amazing town in many ways.
