I imagine that someone has asked already, but do we need to pre-purchase tickets to get in the Vasa museum? Also, any suggestions on what to do with one full day in Stockholm? We fly in at noon from Bergen and have the whole day the next day to explore.
We were there in June last year and walked right in purchasing our tickets there. No need to book ahead.
Once upon a time I worked at the Vasa museum for a time and sold those tickets. Let us sincerely hope that this "timed entry" business never reaches Scandinavia. Here is what to do; Walk all over Gamla stan/Old town for at least an hour, down Prästgatan and up Österlånggatan, eventually ending up at Stortorget and the Grillska Huset café (Outdoor seating in the lovely back yard). Walk to City Hall and enjoy it's scenic park. Have ice cream/Gelato at world-class gelateria Snö (Snow) on Odengatan. Try several varieties. Hazelnut or browned butter gelato with rosemary, or black currant with licorice root. Whatever you do after that, at a leisurely pace, will be the crumble on the apple pie. You will have time to do all this when it is just for one day. A perfect day.
Thank you both!! I have printed your day tour itinerary and plan to enjoy the day as outlined.
Thanks again!!!!
No, you don't need to buy the tickets in advance.
For a single day you only have time to scratch the surface, so it depends a lot on what you're interested in, and when you visit. Other options are to visit Skansen and see the large collection of historical buildings from all over Sweden, take a walk along the northern part of Södermalm and enjoy the views of the city. Or visit one of the other museums in the city.
