The first 2 weeks of September I'm touring Sweden, Denmark and Norway. I'm trying to decide what type of clothing to pack. Can anyone advise me what I can expect in terms of the temperatures and precipitation? Thank you.
Just CCing Al Roker on this one. In all seriousness, check your favorite weather app in the days leading up to your trip. You can use historical data now to get an idea. Much depends on whether you are going to Oslo or Tromso, for example
Without knowing more, it's impossible to say. Scandinavia is almost 2000 km from north to south (for North Americans, that is roughly the distance between Vancouver and Tijuana). So it might be 28° and sunny, or it might be -5° and snow.
I'm apologize, I should have included more specifics. We'll be visiting Stockholm and Toftaholm in Sweden; Denmark; and Oslo and Bergen Norway. While I've previously looked up these locations on weather apps, I thought perhaps, someone can offer me information from their visit(s) to these regions.
Thanks again.
I believe Bergen is the rainiest city in Europe, so consider packing for that. Though I was in Bergen a couple of weeks ago and it was warm and sunny.
You know what they say: "past performance is not indicative of future results." Maybe someone who's been to those places in early September can tell you about weather they experienced, but the best way to know how to pack is, as has already been suggested, to check weather apps in the days leading up to your departure.
Best suggestion is to pack with layering in mind. A packable, lightweight waterproof raincoat/jacket, a packable down or fleece vest/jacket. Worn together or separately or not at all.
Take a look at weather forecast the day before departure and, if trending cooler, throw in lightweight base layers and a pair of gloves/knit cap. If trending warmer, trade a long sleeve top for short sleeve.
Why Toftaholm of all places? Do you have a family connection there?
But to answer the weather question, you can probably expect rain, especially in Bergen. So bring a good umbrella or waterproof clothes. Daytime it might be nice and sunny, but the temperature might also not go above 15-20°. It will get chillier in the evening and don't be surprised if you encounter single digit temperatures.
But remember that the actual weather might something completely different.
