Transportation from Stockholm's SODRA train station to hotel in Gamla Stan

We have a party of 5 senior adults arriving about August 10th from Copenhagen by train to the Sodra station. According to websites Sodra station is destination instead of the regular Central station stop.

So, what is the best way for us to get to our hotel in Gamla Stan?

Is there a Van for 5 people? Or are we better off taking 2 taxis? Any estimate of the cost?

How much time would you estimate the trip taking?

Given our group's makeup, taking buses or local trains is not an option.

Thanks for advice.

Where is the hotel in Gamla Stan? Gamla Stan is a little over mile away from Sodra.

It very much depends on where in Gamla stan. But if you don't want to take a bus (which is strange, it's the best way to Gamla stan from Södra station) your options are taxi or walking.

But as always when taking a taxi Sweden, stick to the reputable companies and avoid the less honest drivers who make a living fooling tourists.

To add to Badger’s comment, taxis are unregulated in Stockholm so it is important to stick to the reputable companies to get a fair rate. Taxi Stockholm is one of the reputable companies. They do have a website and you can book online so you could check to see if you can order a larger vehicle for the five of you.

Taxis are a bit expensive in Stockholm. Last month, we stayed at the First Riesen Hotel in Gamla Stan. The taxi to and from the Central Station ran about $20 US each way.

Walking from the Sodra station would be a bit of a hike, it is on the island across a bridge from Gamla Stan.

I'd follow Badger's suggestions if you don't want to walk. On a beautiful day, the best way for me would be to walk. I'm not sure by saying you are 5 senior adults you mean something else, like mobility challenged? Otherwise I'm not sure how relevant your age is? I'm 65 and arrive rested, my husband is 78 and I'd do the same walk with him. If my memory serves me correctly you will only have to come down a hill on Södermalm as the rest is fairly flat. It is not a long walk, IMO. I usually stay on Sodermalm, granted a little closer on Hornsgatan, but I always walk to Slussen or Gamla Stan and I have walked around most of Sodermalm. Sodermalm deserves some attention if you have the time. Without luggage consider walking along Monteliusvägen and/or visit the old town. You might have another 'best way' and that's good as well.

Which taxi companies? That sounds expensive.

Badger, you mention the need to use reputable taxi companies since the industry is unregulated. Do you mind sharing the name of a couple of companies that you trust?

Thanks!

Stick to Taxi Stockholm, Taxi Kurir or Sverigetaxi. The three major companies. The taxi business is not regulated and taxi companies can set any price they want to, and many smaller companies will charge very extreme prices. Like 15000 for a trip to the airport. Also beware of smaller companies trying to trick you by using names like "City Taxi Stockholm" or "Taxi Stockholm Express". The best way of making sure the car is from a reputable company is to look at the phone number on the car.

Also note that you do not have to take the first taxi in a line, even if the driver tries to tell you so. You are free to choose any taxi you want in the line.
