Im going to Scandinavia this summer! I've heard that Sweden is cash free and you have to have a chip and pin card to pay for anything, regular magnetic strip cards won't work. Is this true?
Thanks!
Melissa
No. There are plenty of places that take cash or accept cards with magnetic strips.
There are some places that won't take cash. For example, the Abba Museum is cashless. You can't pay a bus fare on the bus with cash.
Regarding cards, Sweden is much like the rest of Europe. Most tourist places where a person is present will take your magnetic strip cards.
There are still plenty of bankomats that dispense cash although many banks do not have cash on hand for their customers who walk into the bank.
Thank you! Is it best to have the chip and pin card?
