Stockholm transportation app

I downloaded the SL app on my phone to use when we are in Stockholm. Would my husband need to have the app on his phone, in other words, can I buy two tickets or overall transport for 24 hour period and show only my phone or does that complicate? Would we need to use data on our phone each time we use it for transportation purchases? Or could we purchase an all day pass while in our hotel room ahead of time and just show on Apple wallet each time we are using public transportation? Thank you.

Yes you can. Although to be pedantic, you can buy a single ticket valid for two persons. This means that you always have to travel together, but if you're willing to live with that

I'm pretty sure you only need access to the internet when you buy the ticket. Once you've bought the ticket it is stored in the app.

I tried to use the SL app but when it came time to pay the payment wouldn't go through. There was a note on the payment screen about the app using some kind of special verification so I think that's why it didn't work. I had to get an SL transit card instead. You can get the cards at a Pressbyran store (apparently they're ubiquitous so you shouldn't have a problem finding one and there's a store at the main train station). There's a 20 SEK charge for the card and then you can load tickets on the card. I've loaded 5 single trip tickets and when I run out I'll have to go back to a Pressbyran store to load more. On the bus you tap the card at the front by where the driver is and on the metro there are fare gates where you tap the card.

If it requires two buses or a combination of metro and bus to reach your destination, you need to tap the transit card for each leg of the trip. I assume the second leg 8sn't charged if you're still within the validity period of the first tap, which I think is 75 minutes.

The folks at the airport branch of the tourist office were able to add additional rides to the transit card I used last year. I imagine they could have sold me an empty transit card if I didn't already have one.

Correct.

App or SL card are needed for the passes, but for single tickets you can just tap a contactless Visa/Mastercard/Amex/Google Pay/Apple. Just make sure contactless and foreign purchases are enabled on the card.

I believe there's an extra step required for anyone who qualifies for the senior discount who wants to pay by tapping. I was glad not to have to fiddle with that.

Again, correct.
