There is a confusing amount of information on options for taking a train from Stockholm to Copenhagen. We'll have luggage, so we're not looking for cheap/no assigned seats options, and would prefer not to have to lug our bags from one train to another by switching trains in Malmo.
Bottom line: considering convenience and efficiency, what's the best, most reliable train option between these two cities?
I believe at least one change of train is necessary for the train journey. www.sj.se/en has the train schedules.
Thanks - that's what I'm seeing too. I think we're just going to book straight to Malmo and then get our own taxi/Uber over the bridge to Copenhagen. Less hassle!
Snalltaget run one through train daily at 0905 from Stockholm , Copenhagen arrive 1506- https://www.snalltaget.se/en
Snälltåget's train run until May 3. After that there is another Snälltåget train Stockholm-Hamburg that stops at Copenhagen South.
Snälltåget's official baggage allowance is rather small, two bags 55x45x25cm plus one personal item but if you book your own compartment you can use the empty seats for luggage.
SJ has said the will run Stockholm-Copenhagen from June or autumn, but I think autumn is more likely.
Crossing the bridge Sweden-Denmark is expensive so expect at least 1500 SEK for a taxi trip Malmö-Copenhagen. Taxi prices aren't regulated so check price before going. There is an official taxi rank at Malmö central with no (or less?) scammers.
I would think it would be more of a hassle to get myself and my luggage out of the Malmo train station and to a taxi rather than just to another platform within the train station, but everyone has different sensibilities .
Thanks all - very helpful responses. I appreciate your valuable insights.
This is a Station Plan of Malmo Central- https://www.seat61.com/images/malmo-central-plan-large.jpg
Terminating trains from Stockholm use Platforms (Tracks) 5 to 10, the Oresund trains to Copenhagen use the underground platforms 1 and 2.
You can keep live track of trains (and thus know your terminating and onward platforms) - https://1409.se/station/Malm%C3%B6%20C/avg?lang=en
(toggle between departures and arrivals)- that works for any station in Sweden.
