Stockholm SL Travel App

There is some discussion on how the app works on this forum but here is another specific question.

I want to buy the travel tickets on the SL App for two people (considered a group) because you get some discount - looking at the one that is for 7 days.

My question is since the ticket(s) will be on my phone (in the app) will it be up to me to “scan” my phone with the two e-tickets for both people riding? Is it easy to call up the app and “see” your tickets? Is it a QR code that can be printed out to share with the other ticket holder, or all on app?

There is some explanation on the SL website but not altogether clear - before I buy I would like to understand how to use it better.

Lastly - can you use the SL travel app on the trams (or have to buy from another agent or conductor on board?)

I understand you can also buy a card - does anyone know if you can get the “group discount” if you buy the travel cards?

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

Currently in Stockholm. You buy the ticket in the app, then activate it (each ticket separately) when you’re ready to use it. At the metro gate or bus entrance, you scan a QR code. Very easy and you simply swipe to the next one and hand off to your travel partner to scan their QR code as well. It’s not difficult and no printing is needed. Trams and transfers are covered.

Have you really looked up things correct? I don't think you get a discount. A groupticket for two costs the same as two tickets for one when I look in the app.

Yes, although the ticket gates can't handle group tickets. You need to go through the manned gates.

The code can't be printed or shared. The drawback of a group ticket is that you have to travel together.

Yes, the SL tickets are valid on all of SL's transport within Stockholm county (a special fee applies if you take the train to/from Arlanda).

the “group discount” if you buy the travel cards?

I think so.

Yes I see now no discount for group!

Thank you for all your answers to my lengthy questions.

We ended up purchasing the 7-day pass. One on my phone and one on my husbands.
Now we will decide if we get the “supplement” from Aranda airport or take the express.

It’s probably easier just to get the express - but since we already did the SL pass we may as well use it on the commuter. Looks like you take a bus on a few stops, then transfer to a train for the central station.

We will make it fun - it will be a long travel day but the start of a months long Scandinavian trip.

Thanks again for your reply.

In my opinion, there is no difference in "easiness" between the two options. They are both pretty easy, buy a ticket and board the train. The commuter train is cheaper (even with the station fee) but the express train is faster. Which one is the best is a matter of personal preference.

The commuter train stops at the airport, but if you want to take the commuter train from the airport there is a supplement fee. Another option is to take bus 583 and catch the commuter train to Stockholm there. It takes a bit longer, but the entire trip is included in the SL pass.

Note that the express train and the commuter train use different stations. The commuter train stops at the station in SkyCity between terminal 4 and 5.
