Looking for recommendations on a restaurant where the locals go and less-touristy.
I had very good Swedish meals at Bakfickan right behind the Opera house in May. It is a small place, best for parties of 2 at most - lots of counter seating and a few small tables - but the food was really good the first time, so I came back 3 days later and was recognized! The crowd seemed mostly local.
Operakällarens bakficka is not a bad option, but it is a bit upscale and on the expensive side. A few other options for Swedish food:
- Tennstopet, Vasastaden.
- Pelikan, Södermalm.
- Den Gyldene Freden, Gamla stan. (Oldest restaurant in Sweden, founded 1722.)
- Rökeriet, Fjäderholmarna
- Ulla Winbladh, Djurgården
- Tranan, Vasastaden
- Slingerbulten, Gamla stan
- Konstnärsbaren, Norrmalm
- Grodan, Östermalm
I think most of them serve meatballs, but they also serve other classics like raggmunk, kåldolmar, wallenbergare, SOS, biff rydberg, kalvlever, gubbröra, fläsk med löksås and kroppkakor. And of course snaps.
