Stockholm National Day

My friend and I will be in Stockholm for 5 days this summer, including on June 6th, Sweden's National Day. Are there places we should go on that day or places we should avoid? I read about special festivities at Skansen and the Royal Palace. Are they mobbed with people or worth braving the crowds to see? Are there special places we should try to go that day?
Otherwise, we just plan on walking around the city on that day to see the neighborhood where we are staying (Vasastan). Is everything closed? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think it would be fun to visit Skansen on National Day. I haven’t been there on National Day but I have been there on other Swedish holidays (Midsommar, Christmas, Walpurgis Eve, etc.) and they always have music and other special festivities so it can be interesting to go there.

I think you will find that most tourist sites and restaurants will be open on National Day.

Thanks so much for answering! I will ask my friend if she wants to go to Skansen then to see the Royal family and festivities.

I guess it depends on if you are interested in the celebrations or not. If you are, heading to Skansen is a good idea. I you don't care about them, do something else. Museums and other attractions are in general open but shops are often closed.

I share your concern. Since it's a national holiday, then I assume many people will be enjoying parks, islands etc as well as the special parade and other festivities. We prefer to avoid crowds.

I don't have a 4 day itinerary. Have not bought any tickets or made reservations. City and area looks beautiful, so much to do, will adjust plans based on the weather.

I have never heard of any parades on Swedish national day. Just
saying.

Believe it or not, but they do exist.
